Trauma-Informed Care: Balancing Unique Characteristics Objectives Learners will: Realize the prevalence and impact of trauma Recognize signs and symptoms of trauma Respond by integrating best practices and procedures Resist re-traumatization by applying principle of TIC Apply resilience practice to reduce secondary traumatic stress Description This course is designed as a broad overview of best practices in implementing five values of Trauma-Informed Care outlined by SAMHSA, including realizing prevalence, recognizing signs, responding appropriately, resisting re-traumatization, and resilience for patients and providers. Participants will leave the course with a deeper understanding of the impacts of trauma, specific treatment strategies to integrate into their current work with individuals, and approachable self-care practices. Participants will have the opportunity for individual and group reflection. Engagement through questions, case studies, and storytelling is encouraged.
